THE WEST SHORE -MAP AREA 4The West Shore includes the communities of Colwood, Langford, the Highlands and Metchosin. The City of Colwood is an urban area located midway between "downtown" and Sooke. Colwood borders some of the Canadian Forces military lands surrounding Esquimalt Harbour and contains Fort Rod Hill a National Historic Park. Metchosin is a rural community full of parks, beaches and golf courses. Langford is a mix of urban and rural properties and is the "gateway" to the Island Highway, starting with the famous Malahat Drive. The Highlands is a small rural area near the southern tip of Saanich Inlet. Together these communities make up the West Shore. There is a wide selection of businesses including the CanWest Shopping Mall, Costco, Home Depot and many small businesses and services. There is lots to do and see on the west shore. Fort Rodd Hill the national historic site is on the edge of Esquimalt Lagoon which is a bird sanctuary. The Galloping Goose trail passes through the West Shore on its way to Leechtown. Many of our fine regional parks are on the West Shore, such as Thetis Lake. There are many fine hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts on the West Shore. While on the West Shore you are close to the wilderness areas by Sooke, close to up-island travel over the Malahat to the beautiful Cowichan Valley, and within easy reach of downtown (about 20 minutes). You are away from the hustle and bustle and within easy reach of everything. |
