Butchart
Gardens is about 20 minutes north of the centre of Victoria BC.
You can also get there by bus. Tours are also available. Along
with a variety of theme gardens, there are places to eat, relax
and shop. This place is so professionally operated, you will leave
delighted. On Saturdays during the summer months, Butchart has
a superior fireworks display. Bring blankets to sit on or lawn
chairs for the fireworks.
The
Provincial Museum and Imax Theatre are also a must see and do
while in Victoria BC. The Museum has some of the finest displays
you will ever see and they often bring in special exhibits from
around the world. The attached Imax theatre also offers a series
of shows that will surely delight you. Watching the IMAX is a
visual experience you will long remember.
Whales
are common in Victoria BC waters. There are three pods of Killer
Whales (Orcas) that come here from May to September to feed on
the migrating salmon and other fish. The resident whales do not
eat seals and sea lions, only the transient Orcas do that. If
you go whale watching, you have a great chance of success and
often they are very close to Victoria BC. There are lots of companies
offering this service. This is one of the best places in the world
to see Whales in the wild. Other whales (grey, pilot and others)
may also be seen. Dahl's porpoises (black and white like Orcas)
are very common and almost guaranteed if the whales are hiding.
In addition you will likely see seals, sealions and a host of
marine birds.
You
will experience all of this in the most beautiful part of Canada.
Victoria BC has the majestic Olympic Mountains in Washington State
as a backdrop to the City. On clear days you can see the fabulous
Mount Baker (south of Vancouver BC) and even Mount Hood and Mount
Ranier to the West and South of Victoria. On the southern Tip
of Vancouver Island, Victoria is bordered by the Strait of Juan
de Fuca and Georgia Strait. To the West is the Sooke Hills much
of which is in its natural state. It is just so beatiful here
that it is hard to put into words. You have to visit and when
you do, you will remember it forever. You just might want to move
here. Check out some of the awards bestowed on our beautiful city.
