Telepgraph Cove is one of the most picturesque communities on Vancouver Island. It is the "eco-tourism" capital of Vancouver Island. It has some of the best whale watching opportunities on Vancouver Island. The water is often so clear that when a whale passes under or near your boat, you can see the whole whale under the water. There is no where else on Vancouver Island where this opportunity exists. Most other places, when the whale goes under, it is out of site until it returns to the surface. The kayaking opportunities are spectacular in the protected waters of Johnston strait. Scuba diving is also spectacular with the clear water and some of the best diving locations in the world. Knight Inlet, which is accessible from Telegraph Cove is home of the best bear watching opportunities on Vancover Island. On nearby islands, native communities also offer cultural experiences and tours. Don't miss this small piece of paradise on the North end of Vancouver Island. Right see photos of Telegraph Cove and the totems at nearby Alert Bay.

Restaurants & Dining

Telegraph Cove's famous restaurant, the Killer Whale Cafe is open from Mother's Day to mid October every year. The Cafe is located at the far end of the boardwalk in the newly and completely renovated Saltery. The Killer Whale Cafe, built over the water, is known for its yellow cedar post and beam style construction. The restaurant features beautiful copper tables and fittings and one-of-a-kind stained glass windows and doors. You can dine on one of our many seafood specialties and enjoy the atmosphere of the Cove as you are served your meal outside on the sheltered deck. The kitchen can also accommodate large groups and guided tours at the Cove for pre-ordered lunches. Try not to miss the alder smoked Salmon Barbecue! It is the best by far!

The Old Saltery Pub is also located in the newly renovated Saltery, situated over the water along the boardwalk. Enjoy the picture gallery that is featured on the walls that connect the Pub to the Restaurant, they tell of the history and charm that was and still is Telegraph Cove. Take a good look at the 3-ton engine that sits near the bar, this engine once generated power for Cove. Come in to share tales of the fish you caught and the even bigger ones that got away or tell everyone about the Orcas, dolphins, and eagles you've seen.

Other places to eat in the area.
