To get to Sooke travel across the north of Victoria on Highway 1. Then take exit 14 to Sooke. You will travel on the Veteran's Memorial Park through Langford and then turn right onto Highway 14 to Sooke. This is the best way to go. Sooke is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour from downtown Victoria, depending on traffic conditions. Activities in Sooke include fishing, whale watching, kayaking, hiking, golfing, etc. There are numerous arts and crafts shops and artisans around Sooke. There are some world renown hiking trails around Sooke such as the West Coast Trail, the Juan de Fuca Trail and the Galloping Goose Trail. Give Sooke a try, you will be pleasantly surprised. Sooke has a fine assortment of accommodations from farm B&B's, a cottage designed as a native long house to the 5 star Sooke Harbour House. Some of the great things to do while in Sooke are visit Whiffin Spit Park shown above, or drive through East Sooke to East Sooke Regional Park. There are numerous trails through this park, the longest takes about 7 hours. There are lots of fishing charters operating out of Sooke and the fishing is great year round. There are lots of special beaches when you past Sooke going west towards Port Renfrew. French Beach is the nearest to Sooke and one of the most popular for locals. It has easy access and a paved trail down to the water from the parking lot. The beach is immense with lots to explore and there is a great campground at French Beach. There are some great dive sites that can be accessed from Pedder Bay Marina, Cheanuh Marina and the Sooke docks. The best of the best dive sites is Race Rocks out of Pedder Bay. Sooke is the gateway to outdoor adventure and it is just a short trip from Victoria. Other things to do while in Sooke: check out the Sooke Potholes, Mom's cafe, the Sooke Museum, & Whiffin Spit.
