MacMillan Park is located on Highway 4 approximately 30 km (19 miles) west of Parksville and 16 km (10 miles) east of Port Alberni.
There are trails on both sides of the highway. The traffic tends to get congested as it passes through the park, so be cautious as you try to park. The most popular trail is the loop on the south side of the highway as it goes past the largest of the Douglas Fir in the Park. One of them is approximately 9 metres (28 feet) in circumference. The trail on the north side of the highway passes some ancient red cedars and it also takes you to the shores of Cameron Lake.
Windstorms over the years have blown down some of these gentle giants, and they are left on the ground where they provide shelter and nutrients for the next generation of forest plants. The park is full of large Douglas Fir (some of which are right next to the highway), Western Hemlock, and Western Red Cedar. H. R. MacMillan, donated the parkland in 1944 so that the grove could be enjoyed by generations for years to come. In 2005, the BC Government expanded the Park. There is posted information in the park and observation points along the trails. The only facilities in the park are pit toilets.
