Butchart Gardens is a world-class tourist attraction that is just 20 minutes north of Victoria. Nestled on the edge of Saanich Inlet near Brentwood Bay on the Saanich Peninsula, the Gardens originally was a quarry. Butchart Gardens is located at 800 Benvenuto Avenue. There are lots of signs on Highway 17 directing you to the gardens. Benvenuto is Italian and means 'welcome'! It was the name of the original Butchart estate which is now a National Historic Site of Canada and owned by escendants.

Butchart Gardens has 22hectares (55 acres) of exceptional garden and floral displays. The family is commited to horticulture and hospitality and that will be evident to guests as they tour this world-class attraction. Throughout the seasons there is always something of interest in the various gardens: from the fragrant, winter blooming shrubs, to the fresh delights of spring, to the abundance of summer colour, to the grand finale of autumn. |
There are four major gardens including the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden, the Italian Garden and the Sunken Garden, shown here. There is a dinning room, the Blue Poppy Restaurant and a Coffee Shop. These is the Ross Fountain which is just below the Sunken Garden. On Saturdays in the summer months, there is a super fireworks display as darkness falls. This is a must see if you are around in the summer. There is also a gift shop and flower seed shop located near the entrance/exit.
