to Salt Spring's Ocean Beaches
Salt Spring's shoreline is spectacular and offers a wide variety
of sandy beaches, rocky shores with tidal pools to explore, shell
beaches and boat launches. Following is a map of the beach locations
along with a description of what you might find at each beach.

The
shoreline on all beach is public up to the high water mark. If
there is private property above the high water mark, please stay
off and respect the owners right to privacy. Please take a garbage
bag with you and leave the beach in as good or better condition
than your found it. Please take all garbage with you when you
leave.
- Arbutus
Road - beach access is at the foot of the road and the beach
contains tidal pools, and eroded sandstone.
- Southey
Point Road - beach access is at the end of the road and
the beach contains a variety of intertidal rocks.
- Jack
Foster Trail (west) - Access is on Southey Point Road where
it connects to Sunset Drive. Just a few meters up the Southey
Point Road on the right there is a trail marker which indicates
the start of a trail to a pebble beach (about 40 min walk time).
This is a wide serene beach with lots of shells and a superb
view of Wallace Island.
- Jack
Foster Trail (east) - Located around 10 km northwest of
Ganges, the access to the beach is at the junction or North
End Road and North View Place. It takes about 10 minutes to
get to the beach.
- Hudson
Point - Access is from North Beach Road, north of the Fernwood
Dock and contains a boat launching ramp over sand flats.
- Fernwood
Point -
contains a Government Wharf located just off Walker Hook Road.
- Maliview -
This beach has a number of accesses all along North Beach and
Walker Hook Roads. This is a good spot for long beach walks
and to observe sea life, birds and ocean traffic.
- Grantville
Street - Located in the Walker Hook area, this beach has
limited parking at the end of Grantville Street. It is a good
place to observe tidal flats at low tide.
- Beachside
Drive - Access a short trail from the end of Beachside Drive. A good
place to view Long Harbour and stroll a wide sandy shell beach.
Good parking and a boat launch are available.
- Long
Harbour/Welbury Bay
Access to the shore is by a path marked by two rock cairs in
the Ferry staging area off Scott Point Drive on the right. This
is a steep, rocky beach is beside the ferry staging area. Look
for the path which is marked by two rock cairns a few meters
up Scott Point Drive on the right.
- Churchill
Road - Access is at the end of Churchill Road on to a small
sandy beach with a spectacular view of Ganges Harbour.
- Rotary
Maritime Park is located in the middle of downtown Ganges
and overlooks Ganges Harbour. The small docks can be used to
lanch kayaks and small dingys.
- Price
Road - Access is along a narrow grass road about 300 feet
past the junction of Price Road and Cottonwood Road. Walk between
two hourse to a sheel beach which is best a low tide.

Beddis
Beach - Access
is close to the end of Beddis Road and has a small sign marking
the beach. There is on-road parking and a toilet in the adjacent
park. This is a great place to picnic, stroll, wade into the
shallows and watch deer coming to feed.

- Ruckle
Provincial Park - Access from the parking lots at the Provincial Park. Great
shoreline for walking or beach combing. North of the picnic
area is a small cove that is great for swimming and scuba diving.
BC Ferries and other marine traffic goes by this beach.
- Eagles
Road - Access is from Forest Ridge Road. This beach has limited parking
and a great view of the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.
- Seabright
Drive - Now private property....no access thanks.
- Drummond
Park - Acess is from Drummond Park on the southwest shore
of Fulford Harbour. This is a good beach for sun tanning, beachcoming
and it has a special feature - a a petroglyph. The park has
a children's playground, picnic tables and a pit toilet.
- Isabella
Point Road - Access is from a road side pull-off about 1.5 km along Isabella
Point Road. There is a wide sandy beach along the southwest
side of Fulford Harbour.
- Musgrave
Landing - Access to the beach is challenging. You might
ask for local advice before searching out this beach. A 4x4
vehicle is recommended.
- Burgoyne
Bay - Access is gained near the government dock at the foot of Burgoyne
Bay Road by climbing down on the left of the dock to the long,
sandy shore.
- Erskine
Bay - Access is gained by going to the end of Collins Road where
Maxwell/Cranberry creek flows into the sea. The beach has ample
parking, a boat launching, and is good for swimming and exploring
with excellent sunsets.
- Booth
Bay - Access the beach down a set of stairs at the end of Baker
Road to a wide sunny beach. This beach is popular with sunbathers,
clam diggers, explorers and beachcombers.
- Quarry
Drive Park - Access this park down a 10 minute trail with
steep inclines to the beach. It is located near the end of Quarry
Drive in Vesuvius, just north of Booth Bay.
- Vesuvius
Bay - At Vasuvius Bay, park on Langley Street and access
the beach by stairs that lead to a rock strata beach with warm
water for swimming and some great sunset views.
- Zadra
Road - Access is off Sunset Drive just south of Sir Echoes
Road. Take the 300 meter trail to a west-facing bay.

Be
