Vancouver Island is a hiking mecca. All of the communities on Vancouver Island have many hiking trails. There is still lots of wilderness to explore on Vancouver Island. Victoria has its share as well. There is the Galloping Goose regional trail which has over 45 km of groom hiking, biking and walking trails. For the avid hiker, to the West of Victoria you can access the trail through East Sooke Park, the Juan de Fuca Marine trail between China Beach and Botanical Beach in Port Renfrew, or the West Coast trail from Port Renfrew to Bamfield/Ucluelet. There are lots of smaller trails throughout the city and in the country side around Victoria as well. There are some excellent hikes to super views from Mount Finlayson, Mill Hill, Lone Tree Hill, and many others. You will never be able to hike all the trails in the greater Victoria Region while you are visiting on a holiday. If you are a serious hiker, go to one of our fine bookstores and purchase a copy of Hiking Trails I or II. |
