Bamfield is located on the edge of the Pacific Rim National Park and the Broken Group Island on the west-side of Vancouver Island. Road access is fromPort Alberni over 84 Km of gravel road or through Lake Cowichan over about 120km of gravel. Bamfield is a small town with approximately 400 full time residents and there is a variety of facilities and accommodation available. Most of the facilities are located on the east side of town which is connected by road to Port Alberni. To cross over to the west side of town just call the water taxi, phone numbers are posted on either side of the water.  Stroll the boardwalk and take in the sights from the Boardwalk Bistro all the way down to the Coast Guard Station. Port Alberni is approximately 1hours and 15minutes (84 km, 52 miles) from Nanaimo.Port Alberni is the gateway to the Pacific Rim and Bamfield and is situated at the head of a 22 mile long fjord, Alberni Inlet. Bamfield is a short boat ride up the Alberni Inlet and through the Broken Group Islands (Barkely Sound). You can get to Port Alberni by Bus (Coach) from Victoria and from the BC Ferry Terminals at Nanaimo and Swartz Bay, just north of Sidney BC. Once in Port Alberni, you can travel with Lady Rose Marine Services to Bamfield.

Air Travel to Port Alberni The Cassidy Airport is about a 10 minute drive south of Nanaimo. There are several daily 15 minute flights from the Vancouver Airport to Cassidy. Victoria International is the closest International Airport and is approximately a 2 hour drive from Nanaimo. These are the closest airports.

Bamfield Attractions and Activities: Visitors may enjoy a more scenic voyage to Bamfield aboard the MV Lady Rose which departs Port Alberni on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings with an additional sails on Sundays in the summer months.

For the outdoor enthusiast Bamfield offers opportunities for hiking, scuba diving, sport fishing, kayaking, as well as great beaches. Bamfield is located at the nothern terminus of the West Coast Trail. Local guides and outfitters take visitors scuba diving in the Broken Islands and on fishing charters in Barkley Sound. Kayaks may be rented for an day trips in the harbour or for a more adventurous trips to the Broken Group. Lessons are also available. Some of the beautiful Bamfield beaches to explore are Brady's beach, Keeha Beach, as well as the awesome beach at Pachena Bay.

If you are coming by pleasure boat stop and enjoy Bamfield harbour's sheltered waters and moor at the two large government wharfs. There are mooring bouys in the harbour as well. Relax and wait out the weather in Bamfield's well protected Harbour. Bamfield Temperature Temperature: Bamfield has some of the mildest weather on Vancouver Island. Summer temperatures range between 15 and 25 C and winter temperatures are mild.
