The Cowichan Valley has old growth forests, rolling farmland, and rambling rivers. The valley is a series of small towns and villages filled with something different to do each and every day. Fantastic fruits and vegetables, wine from local vineyards, local cider and cheeses, studios and galleries, and activities gallore. Hiking, golf, antiques, museums, crafts and much more await you. Must sees include the Whippletree Junction, Quw'utsun Cowichan Sweaters, the Quw'utsun' Cultural and Conference Centre highlight the history and culture of the local first nation people, the valley wine tour, the totems in Duncan, and the Chemainus murals.
A mountain range runs up the middle of Vancouver Island. The east side of the range has old growth forests that end with beautiful valleys. The cowichan is one of those valleys. It is a place of endless beauty, rolling fertile feilds, timeless traditions and it ends on the tidal shores of Eastern Vancouver Island. The valley will mesmerize your senses with its sights, sounds and tastes. Each day presents a new experience in the Valley and guaranteed surprises.

Duncan - commercial centre of the Cowichan Valley

Duncan British Columbian is the commercial centre of a trading area serving a population about 70,000 people. Duncan covers approximately one square mile and jam packed with interesting shops, activities and services most of which are centralized within about four city blocks. Duncan is the city of Totems. Almost eighty totem poles can be found spread throughout the city, most of which are on the Trans Canada Highway and downtown.

All totem poles featured in this unique outdoor museum are original art. The works represent a blending of traditions from native culture indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. There are 41 totems on the self-guided tour (follow the yellow foot prints) or you can take afree guided tours provided by the Cowichan Valley Volunteer Society. These interesting guided tours depart from the caboose adjacent to the train station on Canada Avenue.
