ACCOMMODATIONS
The Village of Zeballos has many of the necessary amenities of a small community. There is a variety of accommodations including a hotel, motel, lodges, RV and tenting campgrounds. The village has a general store, gas station, restaurants and one pub, marine supplies, a medical clinic, library, ATM, and a liquor store.

Zeballos is located on Experenza Inlet on the West side of Vancouver Island. The village is a somewhat remote wilderness and was prviously a gold mining town. Today it is a forestry and marine community that has a deep sea dock that is used to bring people and supplies to the community. The area is rugged - stocked and has a mountain backdrop covered with lush forests. Esperanza Inlet, Nuchatlitz Inlet and the Bunsby Islands marine environments combine creating an superb wilderness area that supports many different outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, boat tours, camping, mountain biking, scuba diving, or hiking. The wildlife parade never stops. You may see the likes of Bald Eagles, Orca Whales, seals, Black Bears and much more.

ABOUT ZEBALLOS

Zeballos had the largest hospital north of Port Alberni, a school building constructed without nails which has since been replaced, and a community hall that floated off its foundations by a tsunami.

Nine historic buildings from the gold rush days of Zeballos have now been commemorated with historical interpretive signs.  Each sign has a photo of the building as it looked during the gold rush years and information about its history.

The discovery of gold in Zeballos in the 1920’s resulted in a massive influx of miners and adventurers.  An estimated 1500 people lived in the area before the outbreak of WWII when Zeballos boasted three hotels, a laundry, bakery, movie theatre, weekly newspaper, hospital and a school.

Sheltered by towering forest-covered mountains, Zeballos sits at the head of Zeballos Inlet. The inlet was named after Lieutenant Ciriaco Cevallos who visited the area in 1792 with Captain Alejandro Malaspina.

The small but informative Zeballos Heritage Museum tells the tales of the gold rush and the resulting boomtown with pictures and artifacts. A self-guided walking tour of the village can be complimented with a guided tour of the museum.
